COMMUNITY

Tools & Seeds

Our Sustainable farming project "Tools and Seeds" is an innovative project using one of the few resources the locals have access to have in abundance, land. Taking advantage of the vast amounts of land, SML provided the community with tools, seeds, and  techniques to farm the land to supply food  and provide income. The proceeds of food sales come back to the community to continue making improvements. Many acres of previously unused land is now beginning to grow luscious amounts of Cassava, plantains, bananas and some vegetables. The community will continue to thrive from the education and supplies donated by SML, providing a framework for future generations to build on.

Well Installations

Many parts of rural Liberia do not have easy access to clean drinking water. Children as young as 5 years old sometimes travel 1-2 miles to collect water and not all of the water sources were clean or safe. With the installation of this well in Bomi County, Liberia [pictured left] over 3,000 nearby residents have access to clean, filtered water, improving the overall health of the community and decreasing exposure to water-born pathogens and their respective illnesses. A second nearby well has been installed with plans to expand more sites. A well installation costs approximately $1500-$2000 USD depending on location and supply variability. This would make a great contribution from a family, group or business. Contact us if you would like more information on how to donate and follow a well installation step by step. Your family or company name can be engraved on the well.

Clothing/ Shoe / Toy Donations

With clothing drives directed from the Philadelphia region by Sam, We are able to provide many children with gently used and new clothes, shoes, bicycles and even some toys. Sams neighbors in Philadelphia help with organizing and personally donating items to be shipped directly to his team in Liberia. Meticulous records and photographs are kept of every single item donated, from Sam's hands to the team , to the child it is given to, we track every donation. Prior to SML's donations, up to 80% of Liberian children either did not have shoes or had ill-fitting ones.

Local Orphanages

Not far from Bomi, in Nimba county sits a small orphanage run by one woman from her own home, where she has even carved out a school from seemingly nothing. Housing around 30 children, some with disabilities, she is in dire need of all kinds of supplies including food. SML has provided her as often as possible with rice, beans, school supplies, clothing and toys.
